The Story Teller’s Circle

In October 2008, Effie showcased her recent artwork in a solo exhibition titled ‘Story Teller’s Circle’. It consisted of 11 large paintings and 8 sculptural dolls with interconnecting symbols and narratives.
The paintings, imbued with emotive and esoteric references depicted iconic, vibrantly coloured figures set in imagined and real environments. Personal mythologies, inner imagery and the mystery of the creative process played out on the canvas.
The sculptures stood alongside the paintings as talismans, goddesses, or wise counsel. In the making of these Efrossini alternated between painting dynamically on large canvases, with sewing, adorning and collaging doll-like figures in a more intimate manner.
“Whispers and utterances pass around from one to the other, each following a trail, adding a line, changing a detail until a complete image is formed...and then on again to the next.
A story begins to reveal itself in ways unexpected. It’s sometimes familiar; other times fleeting, but exists deep inside undeniably connected. Part of this story, maybe a small part for some, remains a possibility, never to be fully grasped.
Ahhh...but the colour, the shapes, the characters, keep you close to their warmth so you can hear their voice and feel an essence of their lives that is just for you.”
